Parent Rule 1

So we, as new parents, figured out the ONE of the long standing jokes of parenthood. I have officially begun to document these phenomena that ALL parents experience as Nick and I do.
So Parenthood Rule #1:
RULE 1: If there is a holiday weekend your very healthy child will develop a sickness that requires the ever elusive doctor. As NO pediatricians (in Wilmington, NC) have any form of office hours on holiday weekends parents must resort to desperate measures… calling the Wellness Helpline. This ever helpful wellness help phone line scares the parents into taking the child to the ONLY Medac open in Wilmington, NC or to the regional emergency room. So you/we choose the lesser of the 2 evils- Medac.
Here you will wait for 2 hours to see a doctor that tells you the baby’s ear is infected but the infection is not quite bad enough for antibiotics- so we will take the wait and see method. Which for all of you who do not know- we will wait until the baby gets sicker and then come back. But in the mean time give the baby infant Advil which “helps with the inflammation” but and I mean BIG BUT also masks the spiking fever and is NOT FDA approved for infants under 6 months (Hampton is 3 months).  So this brutal cycle begins, as you find yourself waiting in the pediatrician’s office the next day with every other parent who has experienced this phenomenon.
So if you could not figure it out poor Hampton missed his First Easter festivities with an ear infection! The good news is 1 antibiotic, 2 doctor visits, 3 nights with no sleep, 4 doses of Advil finally Hampton is feeling much better.
Sick little guy waiting on the doctor!
Mommie helping out ... while we WAIT some more.

  1. I have been there .the holiday was fourth of July though here is my story from a couple of years ago i have the same template on my blog too.http://sammieanddylan.blogspot.com/2009/07/happy-fourth-of-july-2009.html
Both my twins got tubes for their ears at about one year. 6 ear infections in 6 months is the requirement I think. You should have less though since your H is not in a daycare center. What a pain in the butt that er doc was he at least could have given you a script just in case it didn't go away.
